Make A Difference to your resilience this festive period

It’s winter and the dark nights and dark mornings mean we are lacking in Vitamin D. The heating is on and its making us all feel tired. We have started eating comfort food to keep us warm and the Christmas parties have already started so we are over indulging and not getting enough sleep. I’m shattered just thinking about it!

If coping with all of this isn’t enough the pressure is on to achieve your deliverables for the end of the calendar year and get set for a flying start for next year. It’s no wonder this time of year we see increases in stress related illnesses, relationship break ups and unhealthy conflict in the workplace.

Building and maintaining your resilience is important all year around and particularly this time of the year. Make sure you are looking after yourself. Focus on these disciplines:

  • Drinks lots and lots of water (at least 2 litres – more if you can)
  • Get a walk every day for at least 30 minutes (wrap up warm and pop on some cheerful music or an audio book)
  • Every morning think of 3 things you are grateful for (write it down for best results)
  • Every morning choose your intent for the day. Intend to be you when you are at your best
  • Every night think of 3 things you achieved today or that made you proud of yourself (write it down for best results)
  • Eat or drink 5 portions of fruit and/or veg
  • Cut out white carbs
  • Limit processed food
  • Eat/drink only a tiny amount of sugar
  • Have an early night or a sleep in whenever you possibly can
  • Do something every day, just for you, for at least 10 minutes (I like a long soak in the bath!)
  • Hug someone

These simple and practical habits will boost your physical and mental capacity to effectively deal with all that the next couple of months bring.

Be a MAD Leader and role model these habits and you will get a better performance from your colleagues, your team and yourself. Good luck and Happy Holidays.
